Report of weekend events

Over the weekend of the Coronation we lit our beacon on the Friday night and encouraged people to come together,  The main event was the Coronation Lunch Party on Sunday lunch time.  This was preceded by Ringing for the King in the Parish Church when everyone was invited, by the Tower Captain, to chime a bell.  Each participant received a certificate.  Finally, on Monday in The Big Help Out residents came together to tidy the hamlet of Bulby, part of Irnham Parish.
The Coronation Lunch was open to everyone in the Parish and through personally delivered flyers and follow up communication we encouraged 103 people to attend.  To ensure the event was slightly different to the Platinum Jubilee Lunch we decided on a hog roast.  Initially we were going to hire the equipment and cook the hog ourselves.  The grant from SKDC of £1145.20 allowed us to reconsider this proposal and we opted for a fully catered hog roast.  Throughout the event the Stamford Stompers Jazz Band  provided live entertainment. The grant also allowed us to provide all the children of the parish with Coronation Mugs and for the children attending the event these were included in a party bag with other Coronation craft activities to keep the youngsters entertained.  The Design a Crown competition was very popular.
The Coronation Lunch Event was held in the Wedding Venue at Irnham Hall thanks to the generosity of Sir Jamie Benton Jones.  The event was made possible due to a large number of volunteers setting up and clearing away, decorating the hall and particularly, the large number of people, who contributed salads to accompany the hog roast and a very varied number of delicious, homemade, desserts to follow.
We were delighted that people who have only recently moved into the Parish volunteered to help with the lunch organisation on the day and have shown interest in supporting other Parish events.  It was clear people enjoyed having more time to chat with neighbours and there was a definite sociable atmosphere.
The Stamford Stompers enjoyed themselves ‘Thank you for the booking on Sunday and for looking after us so well with the food which was delicious ‘ and we all enjoyed the entertainment.
We received lots of verbal thanks and positive comments about the event.  ‘Thank you to everyone involved for a lovely afternoon. The food was delicious and it was fantastic to mix with everyone in a beautiful place in the sunshine. The children loved their thoughtfully put together goodie bags.
I am sure the King would have appreciated all the effort that went into making the afternoon a success.’

The Community spirit continued on Monday in The Big Help Out which again saw people who perhaps have been a little unsure about volunteering in the parish take part.
